Sanjay Gupta
Line Pilot
Born in New Delhi, Sanjay was introduced to the world of balloons by his uncle Vishwa (the pioneer of ballooning in India) in 1974, when they built and flew the first Hot Air Balloon in India. Ever since then, Sanjay dreamed of flying balloons over the plains of Africa, a dream born from a National Geographic article in the mid 70’s.
During a long career in the corporate world (Consulting, Designing and working for an IT company,) Sanjay dreamed of traveling the world and flying balloons, so he removed himself from the corporate life and moved to Australia for 6 years, where he flew balloons in the beautiful Yarra Valley, and over Melbourne. He enjoyed many summers in Australia and summers in Europe – a perfect sunny life!
Sanjay flew balloons all over Europe as well, including Lapland in the Arctic Circle, the Swiss Alps, Cappadocia in Turkey, France, Germany, Spain, Belgium, and Holland. He finally got the chance to come and fly balloons in the most beautiful place in the world – the Masai Mara. This was the culmination of years of dreaming, scheming, and plotting – but here he is, flying across the most beautiful and scenic route in the world, for the best balloon company – Governors Balloon Safaris.
Sanjay currently lives on the Mara River, with elephants and hippos for his neighbours, and enjoys the best job in the world!
“Each day is a journey and the journey itself home,” the poet Matsuo Basho wrote more than 300 years ago in the first entry of his masterpiece, Oku no Hosomichi, or Narrow Road to a Far Province.
The words are on Sanjay’s mind as he lives every day of his life, plotting, scheming and simply ‘living life’ in the present.
